Heraklion Excursions

Heraklion is the largest city of Crete and one of Greeceā€™s major urban centers. At the port of the city dominate the Venetian constructions, such as the Koules Fortress, the ramparts and the arsenal. Scattered around the city one can find several sculptures, statues and busts commemorating significant events and figures of the city’s and island’s history, like El Greco, Vitsentzos Kornaros, Nikos Kazantzakis and Eleftherios Venizelos. The market of Heraklion, offers to its visitors all sorts of modern products, as well as traditional Cretan products such the olive oil, raki, local wine, herbs, etc. Heraklion is close to the ruins of the palace of Knossos, approx. 5 km south, one of the most important archeological sites in Europe, the legendary centre of the Minoan civilization.
